Women’s Rights – Equal Rights And Protections Now

We must continuously work to protect our rights and freedoms from attacks. Current attacks on women are unrelenting.

We must protect women’s freedoms and rights. No one should be told what they can do with their own body. The separation of church and state is well-defined in our Constitution. Religious views have no place in our laws and it is ironic that if proposals to ban abortions were proposed by any other country, we would call it a gross violation of human rights.  It has never been about abortion, the radical right use religion in an attempt to control and criminalize women.  One has to wonder why.  It is about time we pass the Equal Rights Amendment.  Without it, women are second class citizens.

As a single mom, I know how important it is to have time to bond with your newborn.  That is why I support guaranteeing and expanding paid family leave.  The current lack of paid family leave has significant effects on both families and the economy. Additionally, individuals with less education and lower incomes tend to have the lowest rates of access to FMLA leave. This further spurs discrimination and inequality.

Racial Justice – Address It

Racism and xenophobia have long been used as tools to divide us.  Acts of anti-semitism and islamophobia have been on the rise throughout the country. The rights, liberties, and even humanity of African Americans, Latinos, and all people of color have been targets of assaults by those who don’t realize that our diversity is our greatest strength.

Additionally, I’m for ending mass incarceration and for-profit prisons.  The only thing private prisons want to do is increase their revenues, which promotes lobbying and donating to politicians to effectively keep prisons full which disproportionately affects people of color. Mass incarceration is simply the latest version of Jim Crow policies.

LGBTQ+ Rights – Freedom To Be Who You Are

Our brothers and sisters in the LGBTQ+ community face violence, discrimination and inequality because of who they are, how they look, or who they love.  Anything less than equality is a violation of human rights.

I support the Equality Act which guarantees legal protection for our LGBTQ+ communities and advocate for policies that protect everyone’s dignity.

Immigration – Pathway To Citizenship

The United States is a country built mostly by immigrants. My own parents were immigrants.  They left Greece for America because they believed in the American dream – where if you work hard, you have a chance at a better life for you and your family.

It’s time to create a path to citizenship for all law-abiding immigrants (whether they are here legally, illegally or seeking asylum) and to protect the right of families to remain together.
